One of the minor changes I didn't like was making Tyrion and Jorah sail through Valyria. In the books it's one of the rivers on the Rhoyne that's sailed through that has the stone men. Valyria is a mystery, supposedly cursed and sailors actively avoid it, people who have sailed into Valyria have never returned. For example, King Tommen Lannister the 2nd sailed a whole fleet to Valryia to find wealth, in the end the whole fleet disappeared in the smoking sea never to be found and the Lannister ancestral valyrian blade brightroar was lost forever.
