I think of this like maze runner, the first movie was built up for the rest of them. I’m not saying maze runner 1 wasn’t good, I think both the first movies of maze runner and hunger games series was good, but I think maze runner spent more time with a slower pace, same way the first hour of this movie alone isn’t even them in the games at all. It’s all build up for just how insane it gets. Trust me, if you do finish all the movies and look back on this one, you’ll see how different it is. The second movie should be able to prove that.

As someone who didn't see the second one, this movie's second half was really boring to me. There was really nothing special, I remember being in single digits watching the first one and I just remember the nigga coloring himself as a rock, which even now that is so fucking stupid. Why'd he do that? like I get it but such a stupid premise, off topic. But it's lowkey exactly that, a whole bunch of not really exciting pointless action ensues, when the beginning of the hunger games could have been well choreographed, no shaky camera with dialed out noise and an actual action scene. Instead I see hughie campbell chopping random white women and it blurily panning to other niggas. It doesn't make me excited for the second one, feel like we could have just watched Isle of Dogs which i voted for cause it seems much more interesting.

the first movie is definitely a weak movie in the series. the second movie is highly praised and is seen as the best movie in the series. i’d even go as far to say that the third movie is the weakest out of all 4 movies lol. i totally understand you not wanting to watch the entire series. i just hope you at least check out the second movie, if you want to 😭 nobody asked or cares 💀, but my personal ranking of the movies are: 2,4,1,3

The first is definitely the weakest of the series. It sets up the story, hunger games world and the overarching tension/conflict of the story. Definitely give the sequel a chance.
