Soohyun let out a curse as yet another of her attacks was seemingly eaten by the dark clouds of endless rot that Yeomra spewed out of its maw. They had been completely stalemated for over an hour at this point.
He couldn’t reach her with his clouds, and her attacks vanished long before they reached him. Even when she detonated them early, the shockwaves simply ended up like gentle breezes by the time they reached him. Her Orbis had been useless. The Magical Bolts she could fire from it did nothing and using it to amplify her power had similarly done nothing. She had wasted tens of thousands of gold on Mana Potions and Fatigue Potions already, and she was no closer to solving this damned boss. ‘Think, damn it!’
She allowed Yeomra’s Doom Blast (as black as its soul!) to part around her with Void Aegis. ‘Every time I’ve faced a boss in one of these solo Dungeons, they’ve been ‘me, but better,’ or puzzles I’ve had to solve. But I can’t do anything like this damn miasma!’
Soohyun cast her hand out as she used the one thing that had done anything to Yeomra thus far. Ruler’s Hand grabbed him, and she shoved him hard towards the ground, but again, even that failed. The spectral purple hand broke apart and vanished into nothingness and Yeomra floated back up and towards her. He seemed like an inescapable advancing wall at this point.
‘Like that damn immortal snail!’ She snarked to herself. ‘No matter what I do, I can’t get rid of him!’ She activated Gaze of the End, hoping she’d be able to see something. “Damn it!” She cursed as she gazed at the miasma. “How the hell is he doing this?!” Her skill told her nothing, no matter how hard she looked. She summoned a Spatial Divergence and sent it forward. She could see how space warped and distorted as it traveled. But the second it hit the miasma, its power bled off. The intense gravity waves diminished long before actually reaching the damned skeleton.
And she could not tell what was doing it. Space wasn’t warping at all around Yeomra! It looked as still and unbothered as almost everywhere else she looked. The only exceptions were the huge boulders and parts of buildings floating above the doomed, cursed city. Gravity was very clearly wonky near those. ‘What the hell am I missing?!’
Yeomra jabbed a pointy finger at her and another Doom Blast raced towards her. She watched carefully as it approached and then stretched out around her. ‘His defense is nothing like what I’m doing! I’m not slowing anything down. I’m stretching space around me and allowing attacks to flow around a denser pocket of space.’
Grinding her teeth, she realized that she was going to have to try the one thing she really did not want to try. She Warped directly in front of Yeomra, her finger pointed with a Divergence already charged. She fired it point-blank, only to watch in horror as her attack moved like she had fired it through molasses. A regular human could have dodged it! And worse, on top of it moving at a snail’s pace, its rate of power loss was far accelerated compared to the previous times!
And then a whisp of miasma ignored her Void Aegis entirely and touched her skin. She let out a howl of agony as she Warped away as fast as she could. She continued to scream in agony as she watched her arm cannibalize itself. The burning whisp traveled up her arm like fire, and she was forced to make a snap decision in a hurry.
With another cry of agony, she used her Gravity Blade to cut off her right arm at the bicep. Blood gushed out of her wound as she hurried to buy a Health Potion. She choked it down, tears running down her face. A glow erupted from her stump as her arm grew back. She panted in exertion as she glared at the God of Death. “So that’s it.” She said through gritted teeth. “You’re not manipulating space. You’re manipulating time.”
Soohyun’s perception and mental processing were more than up to the task of seeing her arm age into dust in slow motion. Now how the hell could she beat that? Yeomra could just age her attacks to nothing. But it wasn’t just that. Its defense seemed to accelerate the closer an attack got. ‘It’s like a fucking asymptote. The closer an attack gets, the slower it is. And the quicker it bleeds power. How the fuck do I get past that?!’
She glared at the clouds of rot still turning the city to dust. And then a catlike smirk crossed her face. “Oh, I’m going to fuck you up.” She declared to the God of Death. She raised her hand and used Convergence. The black hole appeared close to Yeomra and started to suck all the miasma towards it. But Soohyun didn’t want to try sucking any of it up. Oh no. She moved the blue, swirling ball away, making more and more of the miasma chase it.
Yeomra attacked her with a Doom Blast, but that just made her smirk. The attack was slurped up by her black hole. He fired one at her again, which she ignored as it slid around her. Finally, when she felt she had collected enough of the Miasma, she used Ruler’s Hand once more. Of all the things that she had tried, it was the slowest to lose power. She couldn’t believe how powerful it was as a skill! Especially for one that used no Mana!
Soohyun’s giant hand grabbed the ball of miasma like it was a baseball and forced it towards Yeomra as fast as she could. The hand started to dissolve, so she cast again. Yeomra had no way of making any facial expressions, but she could somehow still tell he was shocked. He turned and started floating away, only for Soohyun to smirk in triumph. A Ruler’s Hand with her other hand appeared in front of Yeomra before collapsing into a black hole. Unlike her Convergence, this technique disgorged tons of radiation. Enough for Yeomra to try to pick another direction. But it was already too late for that. Giant hands appeared around him and forced the miasma to strike him.
The boss never made a single sound as its bones turned to dust.
And Soohyun collapsed to the ground, both in relief and exhaustion, before the level ups started hitting her. “Holy shit. What a bitch to fight.” She groaned. “I hope everyone else had an easier time than me.” She grumbled before sitting cross-legged and checking her rewards.
[You have acquired Robe of the End.]
She equipped it, grinning as her Perception, Vitality, and Intelligence all shot up by twenty-five points each, and that was before the set bonus gave her an additional five to each.
[“Void Aegis” has reached the maximum level. It has evolved into “Limitless.”]
Her eyes widened as she realized that gave her that same sort of defense Yeomra had! Not the aging, but the slowing things down! Now she wouldn’t even have to let things flow around her and potentially put others at risk!
Several of her skills had also received Level Ups, but not enough for them to max out. “Oh, another Rune Stone!” She grinned as it popped into her hand. “Don’t mind if I do.” She crushed it, and her eyes turned a solid black.
[You have acquired the skill “Nihility.”
Combine the effects of “Spatial Convergence” and “Spatial Divergence” to generate imaginary mass.]
“What?” She sounded confused, “What would that do? And why name it ‘Nihility’ if it generated something?” She looked around, but there was really nothing to hit. Yeomra’s miasma had completely annihilated the city. Shrugging, she lifted into the air and aimed her hand at the ground. “Oh, guess this move has charge-up time.” She said once she wasn’t able to just force it out. Frowning when she still couldn’t get anything to happen despite trying to activate the skill, she looked at the description again. “Ooooh!”
“Well then.” Soohyun placed her hands together and her right hand began to glow blue. “Spatial Convergence.” Then her left hand began to glow red, “Spatial Divergence.” She felt the energy output spike higher and higher as her hands began to glow purple. “Holy shit, it’s taking over fifteen thousand Mana!” She gasped as her Mana Bar almost halved. She held her middle finger below her thumb and focused all of her energy into her right hand. “Nihility!” She intoned and flicked her finger.
Purple filled her vision and nearly blinded her. She heard nothing from her attack, and the light gradually dimmed. “Did that even do anything?” She groused as she rubbed her eyes and looked down. “…Oh.” She said faintly. A perfectly circular hole in the earth (and she MEANT ‘perfectly,’) ten meters across, and so deep she could only see the faint gleam of purple continuing to dig, had appeared in front of her. “…That’s why it’s called Nihility.”
She dropped down and landed nimbly on her feet, peering down into the hole. “…How far down did it go?” She asked incredulously. “I hope I can tone the damn thing down, otherwise it’ll be unusable! I’ll kill whatever’s in front of me whether I want to or not!” She sighed and scrunched up her hair in mild irritation. “Oh well. Let’s see those stats, baby!”

“Time to go home and get pampered!” Soohyun grinned before exiting the Dungeon for the last fucking time. ‘I am NOT coming back here; you can’t make me!’

The good news was that all four of the enemies Joohee was facing were orange names.
The bad news was that they were all colossal. To the point that even Titan would have seemed vaguely ant-like next to them. Fortitudo was an upside-down stone head with two dragon heads and feathered, angelic wings coming out of it. A massive halo floated above it. Temperantia on the other hand, looked like a breastplate with a face where the chest normally would be, surrounded by stained-glass church windows. It had two massive arms connected to its main body by magical rings that spun around with energy pulsing within. It looked vaguely like Soohyun’s Orbis. It also had what looked like prehensile cannons for fingers. Sapientia looked most like a lizard, if an utterly massive one, that was crossed with a battleship.
And unfortunately for her, Iustitia was an absolute monstrosity. It looked like fifteen faces fused into a ball, with three of the adult faces having massive tentacles protruding from their mouths, ending in childlike faces. The other tentacles all looked like plants. All of them were, of course, clad in gold and marble armor.
“How.” Joohee ground out, “ARE THESE THINGS SUPPOSED TO BE ANGELS?!” She screamed as Temperantia’s gatling-like pingers started shooting massive artillery shells at her. She quickly dodged them, using some Mana to summon a group of Kinships. Her artillery boats started to fly around, launching their missiles everywhere. They didn’t do any real damage to any of the bosses, but it gave Joohee some room to breathe as they were targeted.
‘Okay, these guys all have some sort of elemental affinity.’ She thought as she dodged one of Iustitia’s writhing tentacles. ‘Fortitudo has the fire affinity, Temperantia has wind, and Sapientia water.’
And all of them were certainly putting those elements to use. The city near Fortitudo was turning molten, while a tornado surrounded Temperantia. The battleship, predictably, had apparently summoned a whole ocean that it was now floating on like one of those water striding spiders. How it was doing that with its bulk, Joohee had no idea.
And the disgusting orb represented earth. It was trying to poison the land around it with a purple mist.
Thankfully for her, at least, she could fly. ‘And the one I take out first is…’ She dodged a laser beam from Iustitia. ‘Damn, they all have ranged attacks!’ She sped towards the most disgusting one. The tentacles all tried to strike her at once, whipping around in a frenzy. She sensed danger and dodged a few golden shells from behind, smirking when they struck her target. The plant-like angel reared back in pain, its marble face cracking slightly. Joohee got under its chin and smashed her morningstar into it.
Iustitia let out a warbling cry as the mouth’s teeth crunched into the tentacle, cutting it off entirely in a spray of blood. “WHY DO THEY HAVE TO BE SO NASTY!?” Joohee cried out, dodging back and out of the way as Iustitia let out a warbling cry and whipped around far too fast for something so massive. Blood spewed in every direction as the tentacles whipped around, even growing blades out of their ends in an attempt to skewer her. Its other appendages tried to shoot her with lasers, douse her in poison, or even nail her with some tacky substance that she really didn’t feel like getting hit by.
It was practically throwing a tantrum, and Joohee knew she needed to back away from it for a bit. There were other things she could be doing. She flew back, dodging two streams of fire as she weaved through the flying Fortitudo. It seemed to be the most mobile one, and she had a different target now. ‘Where are the faces?’ Her eyes zeroed in on Sapientia’s legs. “There!” She yelled before summoning a Ray of Light at the tip of her morningstar.
The battleship let out a cry that sounded like three different men screaming at once through a filter. Its entire leg quickly melted, and it sprawled on the ocean it had summoned. Now roaring in rage, its body opened up. “Oh come on, I know I said it looked like a battleship but-” And she shut up, dodging the gods damned ICBMs chasing her around.
Gouts of fire and giant, golden bullets joined the fray, with Fortitudo and Temperantia joining in on the attack. Joohee swerved and even cut off her flight in some moments, allowing her to sink below attacks she otherwise wouldn’t have been able to dodge before unfurling her wings again. The ICBMs were still chasing her, so she flew as fast as she could towards the huge-armed armor. She flew between its arm and its body and heard a satisfying BOOM when the ICBMs proved too big to slip through that gap.
The spinning rings connecting the limbs exploded and the arm crashed down into the waters below. Temperantia let out a roar and a gigantic gust of wind that caught Joohee in its inescapable grasp. She flew back, spiraling through the air, before crashing into one of the few remaining structures still above water. Some blood burst from her lips from the hard impact, before she saw a massive claw descending on her.
Divine Bulwark saved her, restoring her mana, which she quickly used to heal herself. Sapientia’s arm was blown back as she thrust her morningstar forward. Another Ray of Light melted through the claw, costing the angel its other front leg. She was about to get up, when a gigantic fist burst through the cathedral dome, smashing her from behind and sending her flying across the island.
‘Sh-shit! I lost half my HP!’ She grunted as she felt her ribs break. She crashed into Fortitudo itself, letting out another grunt from the harsh impact. The dragon heads whirled towards where she was practically buried, their gullets gleaming with flame. She sprang away, spitting out a broken tooth and healing herself as quickly as she could. ‘These damn things!’ She thought, ‘I need to take at least one of them out!’ She dodged a laser from Iustitia before she had an idea.
“Come and get me, featherface!” She yelled at Fortitudo, ‘I’m not going to bother trying light or fire on the angel of fire. At least not yet…’ The giant dragon did exactly what she wanted as she led it to Iustitia.
Predictably, the tentacled monstrosity started to try and snap at her with its… flytraps? It didn’t fit perfectly with the three jaws, but it was the best Joohee had. Joohee summoned a Golden Star above her head and threw it down. Sapientia’s ocean had spread through the entire landscape by now, and her attack threw up a gigantic cloud of steam between the two Cardinal Virtues.
Fortitudo let out a shocked roar when Iustitia’s tentacles grabbed onto one of its heads. The two started to struggle, yanking around one another. And Joohee took advantage of it perfectly. “TAKE THIS!” She yelled as she drove a devastating dropkick into one of Iustitia’s tentacles, the force enough to squeeze one of the dragon heads from its body.
Fortitudo’s roar of pain shook the entire battlefield as she popped Stealth. Temperantia and Sapientia had both started firing at her once more, but lost sight of her. The ICBMs lost their target and started flying erratically, one of them striking Fortitudo and the other Iustitia. Shards of marble and gold flew everywhere from the explosions. The two Virtues rocked, with Joohee pointing her morningstar to the sky. “Celestial Beam!” She yelled, and the light from the heavens struck the most disgusting of her foes.
A very childlike cry erupted from the ball of faces before falling silent. She cored the angel from one end to the other.
[Level Up!]
Well, that was a relief. She had been running low on mana after all those attacks. She turned and dodged more cannon shells, racing towards Temperantia. It continued firing at her as she swerved around its attacks. She let out a yell of exertion as she broke into its space and crushed the face on its chest. Marble and gold rained down in giant chunks into the waters below, with the huge, floating armor blowing her back by surrounding itself with a tornado. She flew back, dodging more lasers from Sapientia, before summoning another Golden Star. She threw it at the battleship… only to find it was also a submarine apparently.
Great gouts of water burst from the oceans below. The force behind the attacks would have been more than enough to knock buildings off their foundations. She cut her flight off, smirking when one of the attacks struck a furious Temperantia, who had tried to punch her from behind again. All of its arm armor shattered from the impact, leaving it an easy target for a Ray of Light.
Now the armor was just a shattered breastplate, and the only thing keeping it from being killed was Fortitudo. The dragon crashed down on her, just barely missing impaling her on its talons. Its tail swatted at her, and she made the mistake of trying to break it.
She grunted as the tail’s armor cracked on the Blood of Ashborn, before smacking her into Sapientia. The prow of the battleship opened, revealing itself to be a jaw, before trying to crunch down on her. Divine Bulwark again took the hit and refilled her Mana. The upper jaw widened in shock and Joohee formed a Golden Star inside its mouth.
Sapientia let out a cry of shock before bursts of golden flame perforated it from within in dozens of places, burning it to death from the inside. “Two down.” She said as the oceans below instantly began to evaporate away, sinking rapidly.
[Level Up!]
“Two to go.” She smirked as she flew at the very injured Temperantia. Without its major weapons, all it had was its winds. She flew far into the sky, above even where the tornado was swirling, and then looked into the eye. “AHHHHHH!!!!!!” She screamed as she shot down, almost blowing the tornado apart from within from the shockwave of her flight. Her weapon was glowing gold as she used a trick Miho had told all of them about and engulfed it with Ruler’s Hand. “DIE!” She yelled as she crushed Temperantia.
The impact was so harsh that its body folded into itself like an accordion, sending rivers of blood down into the reappearing streets below. It let out a death rattle as it failed to stay afloat. It fell forward onto what was left of its face, sending up a huge plume of dust.
[Level Up!]
“And now for you.” She pointed the Blood of Ashborn at the dragon. It howled and breathed fire at her. She dodged it rapidly as she flew towards it, dodging upwards and behind it as she summoned five Beloveds. Two of them grabbed onto its talons while two others simply crashed into the wings and started hacking at them.
The sheer weight and new lack of lift grounded Fortitudo, sending it crashing to the ground. Joohee’s eyes glowed gold as she reached out with Ruler’s Hand. She grabbed the dragon by the neck and forced it down. The final Beloved raised its axe and brought it crashing down. Blood gushed from the new wound while the now headless dragon writhed and threw off the Beloveds.
After all, it might have been headless, but it wasn’t yet faceless. Joohee roared as she spread her wings and dove at it, smashing her morningstar as hard as she could into its face. The marble shattered as she burst straight through it, leaving a giant hole in its head as she landed behind it.
[Quest Complete!]
[Level Up!]
She let out a sigh of disgust. “I never want to see anything calling itself an Angel ever again.” She said before grumbling, “Accept rewards.”
[You have usurped the Authority of the First Sphere.]
Joohee let out a moan as power erupted out of her once more. Her back felt like it was on fire for a moment and the light shining from her was blinding. When it dimmed, she was revealed with twelve golden wings and a giant, intricate halo over her head. After a moment of admiring herself, she returned to normal, grimacing when she saw her clothes were absolutely drenched in blood.
[You may now summon all Angels of Paradiso to fight on your behalf.]
Her eyes widened, “Including them?!” She yelped, pointing at Fortitudo’s corpse. “Holy crap!”

It dropped into her hand, and her face went flat as she saw it was decorated by miniatures of the enemies she had just fought. “…I’m so glad equipment can be made invisible.” She grumbled as she put it on, smiling when she felt herself get even stronger with the full set bonus activating and giving her another five to each stat.
[“Ray of Light” has reached the MAX level. It has been upgraded to “Azure Flare.”]
She raised an eyebrow. She summoned her morningstar again and pointed it at a building. As the name suggested, her upgraded Ray of Light was now a very bright blue… but more than that… it reminded her of something entirely different.
The statue’s eyes sparked with infernal light, forming a bright beam that must have been thousands of degrees Celsius. Its head panned across the hall, shattering and melting stone with the greatest of ease. The beam touched several people and turned them to ash.
Joohee ground her teeth as she looked at the molten trail she had carved deep into the marble. The solid beam of blue plasma reminded her of it. But she wasn’t the same scared little girl she had been months ago. “I swear it.” She said roughly as her hand squeezed her weapon’s handle. “Next time I see you, I’ll melt those eyes out.”
She forced herself to relax her grip and allowed her morningstar to vanish. She turned her gaze to her status after a few deep breaths.

“Looks like I’m finally over level one-hundred…” She mused to herself. “Doesn’t look like there’s a milestone for it.” She shrugged and finally exited her personal dungeon for the last time.

Miho could very clearly remember the last time she had been this intimidated. It involved a statue that could evaporate her and everyone around her with its damned eye lasers. Staring at Giauzar made her feel exactly that tiny. The behemoth of a dragon was just that terrifying.
Knowing what she knew now, if this thing was even close to Kamish in strength, she understood just why only five S-Rank Hunters in the world had survived the clash with the American calamity.
But she had no time to muse. Giauzar was getting closer, and she needed to test its defenses before she ended up in a world of pain. The muscles of her right arm bulged as Ruler’s Hand engulfed Bayle’s Fury. Even with her upgraded skill levels and the fact that the skill took no actual mana, Miho felt her Fatigue start to ratchet up.
“TAKE THIS!” She roared as she threw her new spear right at the dragon. To her surprise, it didn’t even try to evade. It hit it square in the chest… only to go off course with a SKREEEE. Her jaw dropped as a couple hardened scales blew off its chest, while a tiny (comparatively) bit of blood leaked out. ‘All that for a drop of blood?!’ She thought incredulously.
And then Giauzar was on her. It raised its right claw above its head and flew slightly up, getting the ‘high ground’ on her. With a roar, it descended, five red bolts of lightning chasing its claw.
Miho got the hell away from it as fast as she could, flying to the right. As soon as Giauzar’s claws hit the earth, calamity erupted. The entire island shook as lightning discharged in every direction. Entire chunks of rock burst from the ground and rose into the air.
‘How the hell am I supposed to kill this thing?!’ Miho screamed in her own head. She summoned her spear back, but she was incredibly unnerved at this point. She had already hit it with one of her strongest attacks and it had laughed it off. ‘I’m going to have to do it.’ She thought grimly as she started to charge a Breath of Destruction. Magenta, black, and red swirled in front of her as she prepared her ultimate weapon.
Giauzar turned its head to her with a rumble. Its eyes flashed as it opened its giant maw… and copied her.
‘NO!’ Miho thought in horror as she fired her attack, taking a forty percent hit to her Fatigue. The dragon’s attack met hers in midair and collided. Energy splashed everywhere as the two beams of power built up into a bulge at the center. The energy built and built before everything exploded.
It was like the two of them had set off a Tsar Bomba in the middle of the island. The shockwave blasted her back and sent her spiraling through the air. She hit the ground with a tremendous impact, her eyes unfocusing as she lost a quarter of her HP just from that. The shockwave was powerful enough to crush rock and everything else in its path. The dark clouds floating overhead were completely blasted away, revealing the storm of lightning that still somehow existed above them. If there had been any trees left standing in the area, all of them would have been evaporated.
A huge mushroom cloud separated the area and Miho coughed up a bit of blood as she gazed at it from where she was embedded in the earth. She ground her teeth as she forced herself up. A Fatigue Potion appeared in her hand, and she gulped it down. She had a feeling that if she used her free Status Recovery too early, she would absolutely die.
She had just tossed the bottle away when Giauzar burst through the mushroom cloud. It looked no worse for wear after that explosion. It landed with a huge, heavy thud and belched out a huge gout of flame at her. She flew into the air to avoid it. It reared back onto its hind legs, a bolt of red lightning striking it on its claws. The bolt changed shape, looking altogether like a sword. With an ear-splitting roar, Giauzar brought it down right towards her.
Miho turned and flew the hell away. She hadn’t run away from anything ever since the Cartenon Temple but was forced to break that streak now. ‘What do I do? What do I do?!’ Behind her, the lightning sword cleaved straight through a small hill, sending a plume of grit and stone everywhere. Giauzar roared again as it took off into the air after her. She dodged a plume of fire and then flew down over the island’s edge. The colossal island floating meant that there were plenty of crags below it too. ‘Am I really that much weaker than the National-Rank Hunters? After everything I’ve been through and how hard I’ve worked?!’
She couldn’t believe that. There had to be something she was missing. ‘How did they kill Kamish?! Nothing said that it had Breath of Destruction! Just its regular fire breath!’ Did that really mean that this thing was stronger than Kamish?
Miho flew between one of the earthen crags and kept close to the surface, hoping it would at least slow the dragon down so she could think. The sound of shattering rock behind her told her that the damned beast had probably just broken straight through it. Her eyes caught sight of a small cave, and she flew up into it.
She hid for a moment, sighing in relief as the behemoth’s great bulk passed below the entrance. Its sheer bulk still forced air into the cave, nearly forcing her back. She quickly looked into the store again. She topped off her health and her fatigue, before hurrying to look in the store for armor. Something that would give her an edge.
But there was nothing. For once, the System was being entirely unhelpful. “What do I do, damn it?!” She hissed out through her fangs. She didn’t have too much longer to think, because the entire island began to shake once more. “What is it doing?!” She cried out as she flew out of the hole.
Blasting the island apart. That was what it was doing. Breath of Destruction carved through earth and rock, sending huge chunks of the island down into the abyss below. ‘Is it trying to destroy the entire island to kill me?!’ She thought in shock as the dragon continued to blast away at the bottom of the island. Up above, huge bolts of destruction erupted from the earth.
‘I hate to admit it… but I think this is beyond me.’ It was a sobering realization. ‘I think I’ll have to come back when I’m stronger.’ She summoned the key and held it into the air, ready to escape.
[Warning: Exiting the Dungeon during the boss battle will shatter the key. You will be unable to return. All experience, gold, and skill levels acquired will be refunded.]
Miho almost dropped the key. “What the fuck?” She thought in horror. She clenched her fists in fury. “So either I die, or I potentially lose everything?!” If it was being literal, she might end up going back to level one!
Her boiling rage made her eyes go red. “Alright you fucking System.” She hissed. “I’m taking the third option!” A shockwave ripped apart more of the earth above her as she sped towards her foe. A foe that was too busy ripping apart the island to tell her own mana from its Breath of Destruction. It had yet to notice her.
She got behind and above it before surging towards it. Ruler’s Hand grabbed it by the wings, and she screamed as she landed on its spine hard. Gauzier roared in surprise, its destructive attack cutting off. It writhed and bucked its body, trying to throw her off.
“Break!” Miho howled, “BREAK!” Two Ruler’s Hands were attached to its right wing and yanking in opposite directions. “BREAAAAAAKKKKKKKK!!!!!!” A sickening crack filled the air as she tore its right wing off. Instantly, the dragon lost its mobility, and the left wing wasn’t capable of making up for it.
The two of them hit the ground hard as Gauzier fell out of the sky and crashed onto the island. She was dislodged from the impact and tumbled off it, hitting the ground and rolling. She turned to face it, only for the furious dragon’s paw to smack her across the isle.
[Warning!
HP critically low!]
“Yeah. I got that.” She wheezed when she landed, seeing she had less than three percent left just from that one hit. Every bone in her body felt shattered. “Accept Status Recovery!” A golden glow engulfed her, and she was back to full HP. She got into the air just in time for her to avoid the gout of fire aiming to charbroil her. She flew as fast as she could, leveraging her new mobility advantage. Its head tracked her, but its great bulk meant she was able to move much faster than it could.
“DIE, DAMN YOU!” Miho roared as she jammed her spear into the one place she thought she might be able to do decisive damage. Its eye.
Giauzar let out a cry of pain for the first time that day. It threw its head back and forth as Miho clung for dear life, using Draconic Channel to force venom through her spear and into its body. She only dodged back when it reared to claw her off of its own face. The impacts of its claws on its scales released a loud screech. “Now the other eye.” She said. Death from a thousand cuts was still death!
But Giauzar had other ideas, apparently. Energy built up around it before the most fearsome roar Miho had ever heard erupted from it. And Miho felt herself sink into the depths of terror and despair. What the hell had she been thinking facing a monster like this? She was just a measly A-Ran-
[Status Condition cleared.]
Miho regained her faculties just in time to avoid getting squished flat by the beast’s lightning-infused claws. Rage engulfed her as she blasted it point-blank with the fastest Breath of Destruction she had ever used as the skill leveled up to level four.
Giauzar let out a cry of pain as it was thrown back. Its scales were glowing red from the sheer destructive energy she had just poured into it. It shook its head before opening its maw to return fire on her.
“SHUT THE FUCK UP!” Miho cried as Ruler’s Hand uppercut the dragon right in the jaw. It clapped shut and the energy detonated explosively. Five gigantic fangs dislodged from its maw as blood rained onto the earth below. As it reared back, Miho’s eyes caught onto the scales she had blown off its breast. She grabbed its neck with Ruler’s Hand and dove for the small injury.
Giauzar cried out in shock as she dove into its chest. It lit up with bursts of red as Miho used her attacks and claws indiscriminately, ripping the great beast apart from within. The light in its eyes dimmed as it crashed to the ground.
After a moment, its back began to bulge before Miho burst out, absolutely covered in gore. She fell onto its back with a wet slap and panted in complete exhaustion.

Miho’s eyes bugged out. “Holy shit, it was that strong?! I haven’t gotten levels like that since Kasaka!” She let her head fall back as she reveled in her victory. She simply lay still for a few minutes, before gazing at the screens. “Alright System, show me the good shit.”
[You have acquired the “Ring of Ancient Dragons.”]
[Ring of Ancient Dragons
Rank: S
Type: Ring
+50 Strength
+50 Vitality]
She equipped it and smirked as the set effect with her other accessories activated, giving her the equivalent of five more levels.
[You have acquired a top-rank Rune Stone.]
She summoned it into her hand and her eyes widened. Every Rune Stone they had come across before had been shaped almost like flat eggs. This one was jagged and bigger than her head! She crushed it and the red energy flowed into her.
[You have acquired the skill “Dragon's Fear.”]
Miho read through the description and bit her lip. “Damn, this thing is so powerful, but it’s completely indiscriminate. I’ll only ever be able to use it if the only friendlies around me are as strong as me, Soohyun, Jinwoo, and Joohee…”
[You have acquired Giauzar’s Soul.]
Her eyes widened, “It’s soul?” She asked in shock. “What am I supposed to-” She cut herself off with a choke. ‘…I hope Jinwoo likes his present.’ She thought faintly.
[The skill “Draconic Transformation” has reached the MAX level. It has been upgraded to “Spiritual Body Manifestation.”]
Her brows furrowed. “What the hell?” She muttered in confusion. She shook her head and opened up her status page.

She smirked as she saw how strong she had become. “Beat that, Jinwoo.” She smirked, thinking there was no way she had yet to catch up. “Now, what the hell does this upgrade do?” She asked as she triggered her evolved skill.
The result shocked her so much that the System had to intervene and ‘cleanse’ her.

“So this is the one-hundredth floor.” Jinwoo said as they stepped out of the transporting beam of light.
Unlike the previous twenty floors which had castles in excellent states of repair (prior to their arrival, at least,) even if the city was burning, this one was different. The city was gone, for one. They appeared directly inside the castle itself, which was in ruins. Ash fell in thick clouds and the entire sky was blotted out. It looked like the aftermath of a city wiped off the map by a volcanic eruption.
“There’s no one here.” Esil said in confusion.
A crack of lightning lit up the sky, and both of them felt an insane Mana Pressure press on their shoulders. They both glanced over at it, watching as something sped in their direction. It threw up a harsh wind as it flew past them before crashing down onto a castle spire. ‘So, this is the Demon Monarch.’ Jinwoo thought as he looked up.
Unlike Esil, the demon was only humanoid, with few features that linked it to humans. He was covered in purple scales and had a noseless face with a sharp, pointed chin. Two huge horns stuck out of the sides of his head as well as a huge, flowing mane of… ‘hair’ that looked more like a cloud made of electricity. He did have a few pieces of armor, if you could call them that. All that the pieces covered were his shoulders, elbows, wrists, crotch, and knees. In his right hand was a sword that glowed with lightning.
Oh, and the monarch stood atop a large wyvern. ‘Baran.’ Jinwoo finished his thoughts as he glared into Baran’s glowing red eyes. ‘Esil was right. If we hadn’t farmed the previous ten floors, I would have been screwed.’ And even with the extra experience they had grabbed, Baran’s name was still red. He eyed Esil beside him, ‘She’s shaking in fear. This guy is beyond her. He might still be beyond me…’
Jinwoo clenched his fists. ‘No. Not after all I’ve been through. You’re going down, Demon King!’ He declared in his mind as he looked at the wyvern Kaisellin. ‘At least it’s not a full dragon like Kamish. It’ll still be annoying if I can’t kill it quickly.’
Baran and his mount rose into the air before he pointed the sword at them.
[Baran has used the skill “Hell’s Army.”]
All around them, hundreds of portals rose out of the ground as lightning flashed. Demons that were equal in strength to the ones from the previous ten floors started to exit them. There had to have been thousands of them. Equal quality but far more quantity than they had faced before. “Esil, handle the small fry.” Jinwoo commanded.
She gulped, “Leave it to me.” Esil said as she gripped her spear tighter.
Jinwoo waited as the army charged. And waited some more. “NOW!” He roared as Monarch’s Domain erupted around him. His shadows burst from the ground around them, their spears and weapons piercing through the hordes in bursts of purple blood. Tusk and Titan combined for hundreds of kills each, with the shaman’s flames burning them to crisps while Titan’s crushing force caused earthquakes that shook their bones to dust.
Esil also got in on the action, moving like lightning through the masses and targeting the strongest demons. Her spear pierced eyeballs, cut limbs off, and crushed bones with precise, measured blows.
Demons continued to pour from the portals in droves. Above them, Baran’s maw started to glow a bright, blinding white surrounded by light blue. A ball formed in front of him, crackling with lightning. With a roar, he turned his head upwards and fired a massive bolt into the clouds. They pulsed and writhed like they were physical objects, electricity crackling along them in an expanding circle. The sky itself resembled a donut with a widening circle in the middle.
And then lightning rained down with utterly explosive force. It was strong enough to shatter earth and stone like cheap glass. Hundreds of Jinwoo’s shadows met their ends in an instant, and even Esil was in danger of being struck despite her speed. The bolts of lightning homed in on her as she desperately dodged.
Jinwoo vanished in a blur of speed and threw his cloak around her. “This isn’t ordinary lightning.” Jinwoo grumbled as she let out a sigh of relief. “It has a wide area of effect and inflicts stun.”
“You don’t have enough mana to keep letting them die like that.” Esil said as they stood.
“I know.” Jinwoo said, “So before that happens.” He threw his arm forward, Ruler’s Hand reaching for the wyvern to bring Baran down to their level.
Baran only looked amused, thrusting his own hand forward and using his own Ruler’s Hand.
“WHAT?!” Jinwoo let out a cry as the two attacks met in the middle and unleashed a colossal shockwave. Baran roared in response and unleashed a huge blast of lightning right at them. “TUSK!”
Tusk did as ordered, firing a bolt of fire at the lightning beam and empowering himself with the Orb of Avarice. His flame turned blue and the two attacks struggled against one another. Jinwoo moved, running with his Dash skill activated, before firing two Umbral Rends up at the wyvern.
Baran didn’t realize a thing was wrong even as his lightning overpowered Tusk’s flames. The black slashes ripped through Kaisellin’s neck and body. Baran let out a growl as the attack even took off some of his toes, his distraction allowing Tusk’s flames to strike him.
Jinwoo sent a death glare at the cloud of dust as Baran emerged, completely uninjured from the flames, but limping just slightly from Jinwoo’s attack. ‘So, I can hurt you.’ Jinwoo smirked as he pointed the Monarch’s Dao at his enemy. “Good. My neck was getting stiff looking up at you.”
Baran said nothing as he stomped forward, his stance that of a predator. He unleashed another burst of lightning at Jinwoo, only for Tusk to use the Hymn of Protection. Jinwoo’s eyes widened as the attack burst straight through Tusk’s shield and annihilated one of his strongest shadows. Baran then froze solid as a localized snowstorm hit him, the ice cube growing bigger and bigger as heavy clumps of snow hit him and turned to ice instantly.
But then the ice cracked, and Baran swung his sword at Beste, who was annihilated by the electric assault. Igris appeared to his left and swung, but Baran caught the blade without so much as a scratch on his hand. He kicked Igris so hard that the knight was ripped in half. And then he ducked, a wide-eyed Blades flying over his head as his Stealth ended. A swipe from the blade cut him in half and sent electrocuting shockwaves outwards towards the army.
Jinwoo hadn’t been idle. He could have attacked, but he used the quick moment to buy and drink a Mana Potion. As he did so, Tusk regenerated and used one of his skills to allow magma to burst from beneath Baran’s feet. The Demon Monarch was engulfed. His most pressing concern topped off, he watched as Titan, his physically strongest Shadow, whipped his massive trunk at Baran.
The Demon Monarch slid out of the cloud of smoke, his arms wrapped around Titan’s trunk. The Mammoth Shadow let out a shocked trumpet before Baran lifted Jinwoo’s whole ass Mammoth off its feet, spun it around, and threw it at Jinwoo’s army. Titan’s sheer bulk crushed many of the other Shadows as Jinwoo let out a shocked curse.
Esil let out a yelp as she was forced to jump over the sliding Mammoth, landing nimbly and dodging a swipe from a Demon General. She hissed as she cut it in half with her spear. ‘Jinwoo…’ She was worried though. The horde was never ending. It was like Baran had infinite mana. Dread was seeping into her mind as she realized all the horror stories she had ever heard of the Monarch were absolutely true.
She had to believe in Jinwoo. She would believe in Jinwoo. “He’ll WIN!” She cried as she skewered three Knights together. ‘I only wish I could help!’
‘This is getting me nowhere.’ Jinwoo thought as he commanded his Elites. He, Igris, and Blades all attacked at once. Jinwoo held Baran’s greatsword at bay while Igris and Blades tried to handicap the monarch further. But when Blades struck Baran, his daggers couldn’t penetrate the demon’s scales. His Shadow had a shocked look as Baran grinned, grabbed Blades by the head, and then shoved his face into Jinwoo’s own daos.
The impact forced Jinwoo back and freed the sword to cut Igris in half once more. Jinwoo reached out and grabbed the longsword with Ruler’s Hand. Baran let out an angry roar as Jinwoo ripped it from his grasp before he could counter. The sword flew away right towards Esil, who sensed it and caught it. A savage grin crossed the demon girl’s face as she swung the greatsword, taking out over a hundred demons at once.
Beste’s storm raged and froze the Monarch solid again. Jinwoo unleashed twin Umbral Rends at him once more, knowing that his attack would injure the beast. Only a bolt of lightning seemed to strike the ice to shatter it. Baran was revealed, holding two oversized daggers that looked more like swords than anything. The blades were powerful enough to deflect Jinwoo’s attacks, and when he looked at Jinwoo, he realized that Baran was no longer amused.
Baran vanished, with Jinwoo just barely able to keep up with the Monarch’s speed. The two clashed as rain poured over them, their blades moving at such speed and with such force that the water was being held back as if there was a bubble around them. Their blades screeched and clanged as they smashed into one another. Jinwoo started to cover his blades in Umbral Rend but didn’t actually fire them. He used it as an enhancement to his attacks instead, smirking when Baran’s daggers started chipping just slightly.
Baran opened his mouth and fired another blast of lightning right at his face. Jinwoo crossed his daos in front of him to block the blow, but the sheer power of the attack forced him back and eventually overwhelmed him. Half of his HP vanished in a single blow as his swords were knocked from his hands. And then he felt the spectral touch of Ruler’s Hand engulf him as he was dragged face-first into Baran’s palm. The force started to crush his skull as Baran glared death at him.
And his mana was nearly gone. He only had one more revival in him. Igris sprang out of his shadow, driving his blade straight through the Monarch’s arm. Baran growled and used Jinwoo’s head to shatter Igris’s helmet.
Blood poured from Jinwoo’s skull as he lost another twenty-five percent HP. And worse, he had no Mana left to summon any more Shadows. Baran opened his mouth and prepared to unleash another burst of lightning straight into Jinwoo’s face…
Only for his own greatsword to come spinning by and slice off his right horn and even a small part of his skull. The lightning erupting from it even took out his eye. The Demon Monarch reared back in agony, his hands flying to his face. “DO IT, JINWOO!” Esil cried out, looking completely exhausted.
Jinwoo didn’t need to be told twice. ‘Thank you, Esil!’ He roared in his head as Ruler’s Hand gripped Baran’s arms and tore them off. The Demon King’s bones were seen for a brief moment before blood gushed from the stumps. Baran roared in agony as he pointed his face towards Jinwoo. “NOT THIS TIME!” He yelled as he dashed towards Baran and the bolt of lightning building up in his maw. “YOU’RE FINISHED!” He roared as he put everything into one final uppercut.
Baran’s teeth shattered as Jinwoo’s punch ripped his head clean off and sent it flying. The lightning energy the Monarch had been charging erupted into the clouds before detonating in a titanic explosion. It was so powerful that the Demon’s Tower, which hadn’t seen the light of day since it was created, was lit up by the sun. Not a cloud remained in the sky once the remnants of the explosion disappeared.
The demons that had been summoned all vanished as the portals collapsed. Jinwoo leaned back against a wall in exhaustion even as the System congratulated him with four level ups.
“Jinwoo!” Esil ran to him while ignoring her nine level ups. “You did it!” She threw herself into his arms. “You did it!” She repeated while hugging him tightly.
He chuckled tiredly. “Only because of you, Esil. You saved my ass.” He said softly. She backed away slightly, only to close the distance again and seal her lips against his. Jinwoo blinked as the demon girl kissed him, before pulling her closer and kissing her back. When they broke away from each other, he asked the question he knew he needed to ask. “You know we’re a package deal, right? Me and the girls?” He said gently.
“And I’m a part of the package now too.” She smirked impishly at him. “I’ll look forward to getting to know them better.” He laughed before they kissed once more.
“Now, let’s look at our rewards.” She said eagerly.
“Ladies first.” Jinwoo grinned over her excitement.
She turned around in his arms and pressed her back to his chest. “Let’s see then!”
[You have defeated the Demon Monarch Baran.]
Her violet screen was saying.
[You have received a Rune Stone.]
“Oh, Ruler’s Hand.” She said as she crushed it. “Nice!”
[Your Job Change Quest has been completed.]
“What?!” Jinwoo blurted, looking at the window in shock. Esil was surprised too. “How is that possible?! What Job Change Quest?!”
[Your total advancement points have exceeded the class threshold.]
[You have been promoted from “Demonic Noble” to “The Monarch of Transcendence.”]
“WHAT?!” It was Esil’s turn to scream before energy started to erupt from her in a violet aura the same color as her hair. She quickly got away from Jinwoo as the aura became electrified, violet lightning coursing around her. When it stopped pouring out of her, she looked at her shaking hands like she couldn’t recognize them. The System told her about her new skills, and she instantly tested the first one. She turned and opened her jaw. Violet lightning collected in front of her before firing out at one of the castle towers. She gaped as her lightning blew a large hole into it and left the edges molten. She simply stood there, completely and utterly stunned, until she felt his arms circle around her in comfort.
Her lips quivered as she twisted in his grip and buried her face in his chest. “You’re the best thing to ever happen to me.” She mumbled, her breath hot against his clothes. He kissed the top of her head with a grin. She looked up and they kissed for the third time. They separated and she saw that she had been given a set of three items that matched the ones the tower had given Jinwoo. She equipped them and felt so much stronger. Finally, she had been awarded the Demon Monarch’s Longsword. “Looks like that’s it for me. Not much of a sword user, but this is certainly a weapon worth using.” She said as she stared at it.
Jinwoo chuckled, “Who knows, maybe the System will pull something out of its ass and allow you to reforge it into a spear.”
Esil giggled before she opened up her status.
Esil Radiru

They had discovered that Esil’s level was recovering to its previous peak a few days ago. They wondered if any of that EXP would be banked for future levels, or if she would just be starting fresh once she was back there.

“I’M THE WHAT?!” She gaped at the screen. Jinwoo chuckled beside her.
“Well, well, should I bow, my royal Highness?” Jinwoo asked playfully.

“I told your father, didn’t I?” Jinwoo smirked, “One of the strongest demons he’s ever seen.”
Esil giggled a little hysterically. “I-I can’t handle this, right now. What about you, Jinwoo?”
Jinwoo smirked as he brought up his own screen, one a darker purple than Esil’s.
[You have acquired the “Demon Monarch’s Ring.”]
So, same as Esil then. He equipped it and decided to check his status page before looking at anything else.

“You’re so much stronger than me!” Esil whined as she glanced at his stats. She wasn’t too far in Intelligence, but everywhere else he was just so overwhelming.
“And Baran was still kicking my ass…” He grumbled to her before checking the rest of his rewards.
[You have acquired the “Demon King’s Daggers.” This is a set of two.]
“Wait, what? What am I going to do with daggers?” Jinwoo asked in confusion.
“Fight with them?” Esil asked cheekily.
He rolled his eyes, “I fight with gauntlets and swords. I haven’t touched a dagger since I was a weakling.” She giggled as he all but pouted.
There were a few other items he received, including a Rune Stone for his quest reward, but the important one was the final item.
[You have acquired the “Purified Blood of the Demon King.”]
“Finally.” He said, almost in rapture.
“Baran’s purified blood?” Esil’s eyes widened. “What do you need that for?!”
“This.” Jinwoo breathed out as the recipe for the Elixir of Life appeared on the System screen.
“The Elixir of Life?” She gasped, “That’s a strong potion! Jinwoo, is this the entire reason you came here?”
“Yes.” He said softly, “All my struggle, all my effort… it was all for this.” He said as the three ingredients appeared before them.
[Would you like to make the item: Holy Water of Life?]
“Yes.” Jinwoo said immediately. A status bar appeared as the System declared that crafting had begun. “The probability of success is based on my Intelligence?” He asked in confusion. “Damn it, maybe I should have focused on that a bit more…” He grumbled.
The System counted down as they waited with bated breath. “It’s much higher than mine.” Esil said. “You only need one, so as long as you don’t have a complete failure…” She squeezed his hand in support.
[Success!]
Jinwoo and Esil let out cheers.
[You have acquired 8x Elixir of Life.]
“Looks like only the Spring Water was used up entirely.” Esil commented.
But Jinwoo wasn’t paying attention. “This should do it, right? This should heal my mother…”
“What does she have?” Esil asked, spinning around as she realized why he was so desperate to craft this item.
“A disease that has kept her asleep for four years in a coma.” Jinwoo responded.
“Then it will do it.” Esil said, matter-of-factly. “There is nothing the Elixir can’t cure, as long as it’s a disease or curse or status condition. It does nothing for injuries. It can’t regrow an arm or anything like that. But it can regrow scar tissue.”
“Perfect.” He was reassured. “Thank you, Esil. I’ve been agonizing over whether it would actually work or not the entire time I was climbing the tower.”
“You’re welcome.” She smiled and kissed his jaw. “Are we done here, then? I’m guessing you won’t want to go home with me for a party.”
Jinwoo shook his head, “No, I want to go and wake mom up as soon as possible. She’s on life support, but there’s no guarantee that there won’t be any random complications after over four years like that.”
“Yeah, you’re right. The party would be fun, but saving your mom is more important.” Esil agreed wholeheartedly.
He opened his inventory to take a look at one of the bottles of Elixir, only to find something he had forgotten about. “Oh right, my quest reward.” A black Rune Stone with a purple rune appeared in his hand. He crushed it and his eyes glowed purple. “Oh hell yes!” He cheered, “This new skill will let me switch places with any of my Shadows! I can go right back home and grab my sister!”
Esil’s eyes widened. “Crap, I thought we’d at least stop by floor eighty on our way out!” She exclaimed. “Can you have one of the Shadows deliver a letter to my father if I write one? You’re definitely not leaving without me.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it.” Jinwoo said as she bought a cheap pen and sheet of paper from her store. He peeked over her shoulder as she wrote and started to laugh hard.
Hi Daddy!
Baran is dead and I guess I’m the Demon Queen and Monarch of Transcendence now! You’ll have to rule in my place though, because that would be pretty boring. I’ll call you with Hell’s Army every once in a while if you ever want to visit the human world! I decided to accompany Jinwoo to continue growing stronger by his side.
Love you, byeeeee!
Esil
She laughed as well as she handed the letter to one of the Shadow Knights, who descended back down the tower. “I’m ready!”
“One last thing.” He said, smirking as Igris dragged the Wyvern’s head over to him. “Good job, my Knight. Arise.”
The Wyvern rose from the dead as Esil’s jaw dropped. ‘W-Wait, they weren’t summons?! I know that skill! Or at least I’ve heard of it!’
Jinwoo didn’t notice. “Nice. Don’t remember your name, so I’ll name you Kaisel.” He declared. The wyvern roared in approval.
“Oh, so you’re just bad with all names.” Esil deadpanned over him trying to pronounce his new Shadow’s name as ‘Karkilini.’
“…I’m not that bad…” He grumbled as the Shadows all returned to his shadow. He wrapped an arm around Esil.
“What’s my family name then?” She challenged with a grin.
He grumbled for a moment before saying “Exchange.” The two of them were enveloped by darkness, a victorious smirk on Esil’s face. The darkness burst open, revealing another Knight in their place. It looked around in complete confusion before slumping.
